Festive songs and glowing lights often symbolise joy. But for many, they highlight grief, loneliness, or the quiet ache of what’s no longer there. And if you’re coping with grief, navigating family expectations, or simply feeling overwhelmed, this time of year can feel especially heavy.
At Leeds Mental Wellbeing Service, we want to remind you that you don’t have to go through any of this alone.
Self‑care doesn’t have to be big or expensive. Sometimes it’s the smallest moments that help us reset, breathe, and feel grounded again.
Here are some ideas to nurture your mind, body and connections this season. Try one or two from each category below:
• Take a short walk outside
• Stop and stretch for two minutes
• Wake up a little earlier to enjoy a slow cup of tea or coffee
• Have a hot bath or shower
• Try a new fitness class
• Pamper yourself with a simple at-home spa day
• Take a nap
• Plan a lunch date with someone you miss
• Say thank you to someone who’s supported you
• Compliment someone (and yourself!)
• Cuddle with a pet
• Volunteer or help someone in your community
• Reach out to your support system
• Treat yourself to your favourite snack
• Watch a comfort movie
• Cook a comfort meal
• Take yourself out for dinner
• Start a project you’ve been putting off
• Create a DIY self-care kit
We’re here for you
If you’re finding this season difficult, talking therapies can help, whether it’s with a friend, someone you trust, or a professional.

This winter, be gentle with yourself. Listen to what you need. And remember, support is always here when you need it.
