Overcoming Stress & Low Mood Class

This course focuses on helping us to reduce and manage symptoms of anxiety and depression. It teaches a variety of strategies to help you challenge unhelpful thoughts, improve your sleep and boost your wellbeing. Evening classes are available.

Course Outline

Week One: Understanding CBT and the physical signs of stress

The first week explores the common signs of stress and the vicious circles that keep it alive. We begin to explore how the body reacts to Stress and how relaxation techniques can help. You will receive a workbook of information and resources and we encourage you to practice and apply your learning between classes.

Week Two: Creating good routines and Improving Sleep

This session explores the impact of low mood on our activity levels and teaches ways to ensure good routines. Poor sleep is often a result of stress. In this session, we will look at skills to help you get a good night’s sleep.

Week Three: Challenging Unhelpful Thinking Habits

This session explores how stress and low mood affects your thoughts and teaches ways to challenge these negative thoughts.

Week Four: Managing Worry

This session looks at how stress can lead to increased worrying, and explores ways to manage this through “worry time” and  ‘Problem Solving’.

Week Five: Understanding and Managing symptoms of Panic.

This session helps you to better understand the panicky feelings we can experience as a result of stress. It will help you understand why they happen, and ways to manage them.

Week Six: Maintaining Progress and General Wellbeing

In this session, we will look at skills to help you stay on top of your stress and low mood following this course.

Overcoming Stress and Low Mood

Event starts: Thursday, 12 June 2025 (5pm – 7pm)

Event ends: Thursday, 17 July 2025

Classes will run every Thursday evening for 6 consecutive weeks. Information on how the groups work, instructions for attending and the class content can be found above. Please do not book onto multiple groups as you will only be able to attend one.
